The Apartment

A whole ground floor,
opening to the garden

Three bedrooms, an open kitchen, a light-filled sitting room and a long verandah made for slow meals. It sleeps six across two ensuite king rooms and a twin — the pool fifty steps from the porch, the sand eighty more.

Dining

Self-catering,
but so much better

No set mealtimes, no buffet lines. A trained chef cooks for you from morning until night — exactly what you feel like. Each dawn, fishermen arrive at the door with the day’s catch: calamari, prawns, fish, lobster and crab.

You provide your own food, with a suggested shopping guide to make it easy. If you’d like the chef to shop, arrange it with him directly. Please buy bottled water — the tap water isn’t potable, and a dispenser is provided.

The Beach & Beyond

The nicest stretch
on the coast

The beach in front of the house is, in one guest’s words, “the nicest stretch of beach on the entire coast,” with a sandbar to walk out to at low tide.

The Sails Seafood Restaurant is next door; more restaurants and shops are a short tuk-tuk ride away.

Our Story

A little slice of heaven

Some of my fondest memories are here on Galu Beach — watching my children learn to swim, Colobus monkeys in the trees over the garden, fishermen arriving at first light. We named it Malaika Nyumbani — Swahili for “Angel’s Home” — because that is exactly what it has always felt like to us.

It’s a hidden treasure, and after ten years of welcoming guests I still love sharing it. Come and make some memories of your own.

Questions, answered

Can we add a seventh guest?
Yes — the home sleeps six comfortably, with room for a seventh on an extra bed that can be arranged. Availability and any details are handled on the Airbnb listing.
What are check-in and checkout times?
Check-in is 2:00–6:00 p.m. and checkout is before 10:00 a.m. It’s self check-in with the building staff, available 24 hours.
Is the chef’s grocery shopping included?
You provide your own food, and a suggested shopping guide makes it easy. If you’d like the chef to shop for you, arrange it with him directly — you cover his transport and a tip, as it’s outside his standard duties.
Can we drink the tap water?
No — please buy bottled water. The apartment has a water dispenser; an 18-litre bottle is a good start, and more for larger groups or longer stays.
How long is a festive-season stay?
The 22 December–1 January window books as a fixed 10-night stay on Airbnb.
Is there a pool and beach access?
Yes — a shared pool (one of the few in the area) and shared beachfront access, just 80 steps to Galu Beach.
